Redwood National and State Parks, established in 1969 are located along the coastal area of Northern California. It is a group Parks which includes: Redwood National Park, Jedediah Smith Redwood State Park, Prairie Creek Redwood State Park, Del Norte Coastal State Park. They feature old growth temperate rainforest and particularly the Coast Redwood trees (Sequoia sempervirens). These trees receive their moisture from both heavy winter rains and persistent coastal California summer fog. They are the tallest and most massive trees species on Earth! The coast redwood tree called Hyperion discovered in Redwood National Park in 2006, has been documented as the world's tallest known living tree at 380.3 feet tall!
